All We Know About Carp (so far)

The village of Carp (pop. ~1200) is located 25km west of downtown Ottawa, just west of northern Kanata.

Our house is located at the tip of the arrow in the map below (129 Cavanagh Dr.).

High Tech Village

Getting to Ann's work is a snap. In rush hour, it's an easy 10 minute drive east on March Rd (a.ka. old Hwy 17) to the Kanata High Tech Park, home to Newbridge/Alcatel, Mitel, March Networks, MOSAid, Nordion, bits of Nortel and - of course - CMC.

Village Amenities

The village has a library, a fire hall, a community centre, an arena, a curling club, an art gallery, an elementary school and a fairgrounds. Carp has a few stores, including a flower shop, hardware store, grocery store, bakery, drug mart, liquor store, and a video store. For a village, Carp has a lot of places to eat, including a Chinese restaurant, 2 pizza places, and an unbelievable 4 pubs! Other amenities include a bank, a chiropractor, medical/dental centre, 2 hair salons and a funeral parlour. Most of this is packed into the area within one block from the main crossroads. For some reason, Carp also has 2 airports (shown on upper map).
